Effects of a negative attitude

EFFECTS OF A NEGATIVE ATTITUDE

You are where you are and what you are because of the dominating thoughts that occupy your mind. Negative thoughts result in a negative person who is bound by his own negative circumstances. A negative thinker is like the man who swallowed an egg with shell and all. He was afraid to move for fear it would break, and he was afraid to sit still for fear it would hatch.

When a person always looks for and finds the negative things in life, it becomes a habit that’s hard to overcome. When a positive opportunity presents itself, the negative person can’t see it and will never seize it, He will see every circumstance as a series of obstacles.

What’s the difference between an obstacle and an opportunity? The main difference is a person’s attitude toward it. Abraham Lincoln said “Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.” It’s a good policy to refuse to accept the negative until you have thoroughly explored the positive. When you cultivate an attitude of positive thinking it’s easier to make clear decisions.

Negative thinking is contagious. Spending periods of time with negative people will rub off on you. Birds of a feather do flock together! My mother used to say that what you become depends on the books you read and the people you mix with. Take a look at the people you are currently mixing with, is the general attitude worth catching? Spend long periods with people who think negatively and it will begin to affect you. Being exposed to negative people is like being exposed to radiation. You can survive low doses for brief periods of time, but continuous exposure will kill you.

Negative thinking can also blow things out of perspective. Nothing is as hard as it looks, things can be more rewarding than you expect, and if anything can go right, it will and at the best possible moment. So says John Maxwell. Negative thinking also decreases hope and where there is no hope in the future, there is no power in the present. What you expect is what you get, in the Old Testament Job said “What I feared has come to pass.” Here is a quick test to see if you are normally positive or negative, do you say …

It will never work.
We’ve never done it that way before.
We cannot afford it.
We’re doing fine without it.
We are not ready for it.
Or closer to home, it’s not my responsibility or job.

Solomon in Proverbs said, “As a man thinketh in his heart so is he.” People become what they believe and see. It then becomes obvious that to enjoy life you have to change from always been negative to adjusting your outlook to a more positive position. Someone said that negative thinkers are seasick during the entire voyage of their life. Regardless of the present, they are disappointed in the future.

For negative people the glass is always half full and getting emptier. They expect and receive the worst of life. If we want to live life to the fullest and reach our potential, to enjoy the journey we must be and remain positive despite what happens. The law of attraction tells us we get what we think and what we say. Please read that line again, put it in a place where you will see it every day. In this life you will find yourself surrounded by negatives and positives. The Law of Attraction states that whatever you focus on, positive or negative, will be drawn into your life.

This post has been somewhat serious, so let’s conclude on a lighter note. At a seminar that I attended, the enthusiastic speaker made a statement that with the right attitude nothing is impossible. A negative thinker in the audience challenged him on the point and said. “I can’t have a baby, I’m a man.” The speaker asked him to please stand, to remove his shirt and pointing to the two nipples on his chest, said. “Sure you can’t have a baby but God put those on your chest just in case!” Which I thought wasn’t a bad answer.
Your mind is like a computer, what you put in is what you get out, GIGO and you decide whether it’s Garbage in, Garbage out. Or, Good in, Good out.
To your Positive success.
